CHURCH COUNCIL NOTES
Here is a summary of the August Church Council
meeting:
o
A
desk from Teri Sakai will be put into the church narthex for Pastor Olaf to use
when he is there. That will allow
visitors and others access to the church during the week.
o
Pastor
Olaf was granted vacation time from October 14th-21st to
attend his sister’s wedding in California.
Helen H-P will do pulpit supply on Sunday, October 18th.
o
The
Bible Club at Waimea Canyon Middle School will start up on Thursday, August 13th
at lunchtime in the Band Room, graciously offered by Mr. David Braun.
o
The
30-second ad for the church is completed. This ad will be used for TV and
theater showing and will have to be approved by the Council.
o
The
chaplaincy program at KVMH has been revived by the West Kauai Ministers
Association. Pastor Olaf is on call for
August and September.
o
The
presentation by Martha Mensediek, visiting UCC missionary to Japan was
informative and well-attended. She
spoke on “Bazaar Café” an outreach program of Doshisha University in Kyoto,
Japan.
o
There
is an increase in the number of people coming to the Food Bank because of the
current economic situation. Grace Kamai
anticipates a greater number of families that will need help especially during
Thanksgiving and Christmas.
o
Margaret
Kagawa has plans to use the vacant Faye lot for a vegetable garden that will
supplement the Food Bank.
o
There
is a need to better secure and monitor water usage at the cemetery. At present anyone can use the water, but not
everyone is using it responsibly. Other projects to be done include replacing
the flooring and sink in the Columbarium, building a ramp for accessibility,
fixing the sprinkler system and Resurrection pond pump.
o
The
Deacons had a training session on how to approach visitors to the church, and
Communion responsibilities.
o
Driveway
Project: A concrete driveway will cost more than a blacktop one
and will be harder to maintain. There
needs to be more discussion on the choice of materials.
